Champions for Life Gymnastics Program

Champions for Life offers programming that promotes total body awareness, core strength, balance, coordination, maintains flexibility, and promotes confidence, courage and interest in physical activity while having fun! Gymnastics is a building block that will serve all athletics well.

Classes are offered for gymnasts of all ages and experiences. Through safe and logical progressions of skills on all the Olympic events, gymnasts learn the basics of gymnastics. The objectives at the beginner level are to build a solid foundation to facilitate their gymnastic careers if they desire to continue. The sport of gymnastics has a unique overall development aspect that will nurture your child’s growth in any other sporting activity that he or she decides to pursue.

Has your child been in gymnastics before? Not sure what level he or she should be in? Generally speaking, you can follow the age suggestions for each level. If you have any questions, please let us know!

Health and Safety:

  • If you or your child is sick, please stay home.

  • Children should bring their own water bottle to class. Please do not share water bottles with your classmates.

  • It is imperative in a busy gym that kids are focused on their teacher. Please remain in the lobby during class (or feel free to go to your car or run an errand!). Please do not enter the gym, unless invited to do so by your child’s teacher. Please hold all comments until after class.

  • Please come to practice ready to participate (locker rooms are available, but please give yourself enough time to change before class begins)

  • Gymnastics appropriate clothing only please (leotards or close fitting shirts and shorts or leggings, no denim, zippers, snaps, or buttons)

  • Hair should be up in a ponytail or bun

  • No rings, necklaces, or dangly earrings (studs are fine)

Class Descriptions

TODDLER TIME

Toddler Time is our beginner class for toddlers and their grown-ups. Children are introduced to each apparatus and event, including beam, pre-school bars, the trampoline, and floor exercises, in a fun, safe setting. The instructor will set up stations, just like they do for the big kids, and each toddler and his/her grown up will do the stations together, learning body positions, jumping with two feet, hanging on to bars, balancing, and how to be part of a class. We find having our favorite grown-up in class with our toddlers allows the instructor to teach the whole class, and lets the grown-up chase down the toddler when they make the inevitable toddler run-for-it!

Ages 18 months to 3 years
Boys and girls, along with their favorite grown-up
Classes are 30 minutes long

rollers and twisters

At this level, grown-ups stay in the lobby, and our students get to come in to the gym on their own! Students continue to learn each of the apparatus, including the beams, pre-school equipment, floor, trampoline, and sometimes the big beams (with lots of help). Instructors set up stations, and students will rotate to each station throughout the class. Instructors will give instruction/correction at each station as the students rotate, continuing to build on the skills the kids have learned in Toddler Time, or as they are learning them for the first time, including correct gymnastics body positions, hanging on the bar, skipping and galloping, jumping with two feet, and very basic tumbling.

Ages 3 to 4 years

Super tots

Super Tots is almost the same as Rollers and Twisters, but for kids who are a little older, or who have a little more experience. In Super Tots, grown-ups are expected to stay in the lobby (or in their car or wherever they choose) while students enter the gym on their own. Instructors will set up stations and explain them to the students, who will rotate through each station for practice and correction. Students will use all apparatus in the gym, including the red floor beams and the big beams, both sets of bars, the floor, and the trampoline. Students will begin learning advanced body positioning, including tuck, straddle, pike, etc, as well as basic tumbling, balancing on the beams, and swinging, holding, and lifting their body weight on the bars.

Ages 4 to 5 years
Boys and girls

tumbling and trampoline

In Tumbling and Trampoline students will enter the gym on their own while their grown-up stays in the lobby or runs errands. Instruction time in this class is split between the trampoline and the floor. This class is for kids interested in learning how to do the fun tumbling skills learned in higher level classes, but who are not interested in learning the other apparatus in the gym. Typically, these students will learn how to properly do forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges, back handsprings, and back tucks. This class is excellent for potential divers, for cheerleaders looking to learn more tumbling skills, or for any child interested in learning tumbling safely and correctly.

Ages 6 - 10 years
Boys and girls
Classes are 60 minutes long

level 1

Level 1 classes divided by gender, as students in these classes begin doing more specific work on their own competition apparatus. In Level 1, all students are expected to enter the gym on their own, while grown-ups either stay in the lobby or leave the building. All gymnastics apparatus is used. Girls will use the short and tall beams, the floor, the trampolines (including the Tumble Track), the big bars, and will begin working on pre-vault skills. Boys will use the floor, the high bar, the rings, and the pommel horse, or skills leading to the safe use of this equipment. In Level 1, the instructors will set up stations, and describe stations to students. Students will rotate through their stations for practice and correction. Students will learn body positioning fundamentals, forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, balance, and supporting body weight on bars.
