Adaptive Recreation Program

Champions for Life’s Adaptive Recreation Program brings people with developmental disabilities together with direct support professionals for fun and exercise at the Champions for Life Sports Center and Everest Park. We are one of the only specialized recreation programs located in Cayuga County, and all surrounding county residents who are eligible can participate! This is a great place for younger individuals to learn life skills and social skills in a safe and positive environment.

Our fully interactive process matches the Adaptive Rec participant with a one-on-one mentor and tailors a program for the individual and family alike, contoured to their needs and abilities. Activities focus on skill-building, physical fitness, coordination, emotional and behavioral development and socialization, and are always FUN! Learn while you play!

Explore our gym and play on our gymnastics equipment, kick the soccer ball around in the sports arena, or learn how to play tennis! Other possible activities include fitness/exercise in our fully equipped fitness center, games, arts and crafts, lacrosse, homework help and so much more! We want our participants to get the most out of the experience while building them up through virtue and positive thinking.

We are no longer considered an agency with the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) through New York State, but we are still a valuable resource in the disabilities community. If you know someone who is receiving services for Family Support Services (FSS) through OPWDD, they are eligible for this program! Additionally, we can accept individuals who may not receive state services or in the process of receiving them.

To apply for the recreation program at CFL, complete the application below, and our program director will be in touch with the next steps. If you can provide proof of eligibility from OPWDD/FSS, it would expedite the process. TABS ID number is not required. If you have further questions about the program, contact Program Director Andy Collier at andrew.collier@championsforlife.org.
