Adaptive Recreation Program
Champions for Life’s Adaptive Recreation Program brings people with developmental disabilities together with direct support professionals for fun and exercise at the Champions for Life Sports Center and Everest Park. For many years we operated a Family Support Services program funded by the State of New York. When that program ended, we knew we wanted to continue to offer specialized recreation to individuals with special needs. One of the benefits to the state program ending is that we are now able to serve all CNY resident, regardless of county of residence or whether the person lives with family, is in foster care, or lives in a group home. This is a great place for younger individuals to learn life skills and social skills in a safe and positive environment.
Our fully interactive process matches the Adaptive Rec participant with a one-on-one mentor and tailors a program for the individual and family alike, contoured to their needs and abilities. Activities focus on skill-building, physical fitness, coordination, emotional and behavioral development, and socialization, and are always FUN! Learn while you play!
Explore our gym and play on our gymnastics equipment, kick the soccer ball around in the sports arena, or learn how to play tennis! Other possible activities include fitness/exercise in our fully equipped fitness center, games, arts and crafts, lacrosse, homework help and so much more! We want our participants to get the most out of the experience while building them up through virtue and positive thinking.
If you know someone who is receiving services for Family Support Services (FSS) through OPWDD, they are eligible for this program! Additionally, we can accept individuals who may not receive state services or is in the process of receiving them.
Fees for the program for eligible persons can be paid by the family or can be submitted to their agencies for payment. Please contact us for more information.
